Paper
The research paper is to be typed, 12 pt and double-spaced.  It can also be written in cursive in black ink.  Your paper must include a bibliography and an illustration.  You must use at least two books for your paper.  Consider the following questions:
  • What are the years in which your tribe's civilization flourished?
  • What was the geographic environment of your civilization?  What climate or weather challenges did they endure?  How did the environment influence your civilization?
  • Which contemporary countries, states or provinces exist today where your tribe originated?
  • What are some notable achievements of your civilization?
  • Describe unique and interesting cultural practices that you found in your research.
  • What has been the legacy of your tribe?  (How did your civilization influence Native American history?)
Project
Select one item from the following suggestions.  Your decision must be included on your contract due Tuesday September 27th
  • Sand art picture
  • Write a creative story about Native American and European interaction in your region.  Develop characters and setting.
  • Complete a timeline of treaties and land acquisition that the US government used in taking land
  • Create a poem about the Native American experience
  • Create a song, complete with music about the Native American experience
  • Build the type of home that Native Americans from your tribe would live in
  • Create an informational poster (Be careful here, and VERY creative)
  • Using clay or other material, recreate an artifact that would be found in your tribe's ancient civilization
  • Read a book and complete a book report.  Once you have read a book about the Native American experience (fiction or nonfiction), you must respond in one of the following ways:  1.  Create  a storyboard of the major events.  You must have at least 10 scenes, 2)  Create a board game of the events, setting and main characters, 3)  Create a diorama that depicts the main characters, setting, important events and outcome of the book, and 4)  Pretend that you are interviewing the main character of the book.  Write a story based on your interview.
